Game Changer Pt 1: A Journey from Rugby Player to Triathlete

On October 26th, 2016, I did something crazy, and it’s caused me a few sleepless nights.

I signed up for an Ironman.

I had never competed in a triathlon at the time, and the longest race I’d run was 10 miles.

So why did I do it? My two brothers, sister-in-law and 54-year old father have completed multiple Ironmans. When they all signed up for one in Northern California (where I live), I got the message; “Michael, it’s your turn.”

While I always cheered them on, I’d never personally been interested in endurance sports until recently. I was a Rugby League player, built for 80 minutes of high intensity bursts. When a concussion last May left me unable to work, or even look at a computer screen for a couple of weeks, I began to think twice about stepping back on the pitch. My decision to sign up for an Ironman effectively stuck a fork in my playing career.

I’m excited to have a next step in my athletic life beyond Rugby League and I’m thrilled to have Raw World Organics with me every swim stroke, pedal and step of the way!
